New life for a traditional garden
The Brief and my Design
The existing garden to this property needed a re-think. It had some quite established trees and shrubs but was looking tired and lacked any shape. The client wanted to maintain quite a traditional feel to the garden and planting
I worked on this garden whilst working at Katherine Roper Landscape and Garden Design. I designed a totally new shape to the lawn that wrapped around the garden and created a more organic feel. The planting was kept quite naturalistic, and height was given to the central bed in order to conceal the area behind it. This led to an element of mystery to the design where the garden could not be viewed as a whole.
The shape of the lawn was reflected in the shape of the paving and decking. A lot of care was taken to ensure that the pavers were laid in a particular way so that the detail of the cuts became a feature in themselves.
“Flower beds to curve into the newly shaped lawn and all around it, filling them with wonderfully shaped flowering plants and ferns. The hard areas were made interesting by using different surfaces including stones, decking and beautifully laid old brick” – Lucy
